Think Insects Are Mere Pests?
Think Again!

Insects do rule the world - so whether you like them or just like to squash them, bugs are here to stay. So, with that said, we might as well try to get along with our six-legged neighbors.

These arthropods impact our environment more then you probably realize. After reading through the website, we hope that you will begin to appreciate these tiny wonders.

As organic controls, bugs can reduce the use of pesticides, help pollinate our flower gardens, and decompose our waste. Still not impressed? How about their use in modern medicine and ability to help solve crimes known as forensic entomology!

Of course there are some organisms in the class insecta that no matter how you look at them they are indeed pests (except of course to the entomologists studying them). Bed bugs, for example, are making a resurgence and have been featured frequently in the media. What's so bad about them? What do their bites look like? And how do we get rid of them?

There are some critters we should be wary of. But through a little education and understanding of this wonderful world and the diseases they can spread, you will realize there is no need to fear our creepy crawly companions. We've compiled tons of bug info and added loads of photos to make your insect identification a breeze.

Preying Mantis Up-close

First, we should go over some general bug info.

There are more then 900,000 different species of insects identified today. Although, that number might sound astonishing, scientist still have a lot of work ahead of them. It is estimated that in the Brazilian rain forest alone more then 90 percent of the different kinds of bugs have yet to be identified. Talk about job security!

Obviously, it would be impossible for us to make a guide for each one of those animals. Most species being discovered today are so visually similar, that scientists must use DNA analysis to distinguish species. Besides, chances are that neither you or I will ever encounter those critters. Instead, lets just focus on the ones that impact our lives the most and the ones buzzing around our heads now.
